The poor performance of Asian teams in South Africa continues, as this time, The Proteas made The tigers their victims. South Africa beat Bangladesh by 333 runs and lead the test series by 1-0. Dean Elgar, for his brilliant batting in the first innings, helped him win the Man of the Match award.
South Africa completely dominated Bangladesh despite losing the toss. After winning the toss, Bangladesh had to look for early wickets to put some pressure on the openers. However, the Bangladesh bowlers failed to do so after Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar’s disciplinary batting. Together, the duo added 196 runs for the first wicket. The debutant, Aiden Markram played like a pro but fell three runs short of his century.
After this wicket, Bangladesh looked to put some pressure back on The Proteas as they looked for successive wickets. However, the veteran pair Hashim Amla and Dean Elgar took the onus upon themselves to add runs on the board. Hashim Amla scored 137 runs whereas Dean Elgar suffered an unfortunate dismissal as he went back to the hut after scoring 199 runs. They added 215 runs for the second wicket. With that, RSA scored 496 runs before the captain du Plessis decided to declare the innings.
Bangladesh started off bad as they lost both their openers for just 36 runs. However, the middle order did not give up and added valuable runs for the team. Mahmdullah scored 66 runs whereas Mominul Haque scored 77 runs. With these knocks and other valuable knocks from the middle order, Bangladesh avoided the follow-on and scored 320 runs.
In the second innings, Bangladesh bowling looked far more disciplined as they sent the top three run scorers of the first innings for just 70 runs. Faf Du Plessis and Temba Bavuma score 81 and 71 respectively and added 141 runs for the fourth wicket. With that, they put a massive target of 424 runs.
The target was far from away and to make matters worse for Bangladesh, Morne Morkel whacked two wickets in the first over of the Bangladesh innings. He took Mushfiqur Rahim in his next over as well with an Absolute Jaffa. However, Mushfiqur Rahim got a life as Morne Morkel overstepped the line. Later on, he suffered a side strain because of which he was not going to participate in the remainder of the match. On the last day, South Africa wrapped the innings in just the first session as they bowled Bangladesh out for just 90 runs. Thus, they won the match by 333 runs and lead the series 1-0.
