The summer transfer window was no less than a rollercoaster ride for most of the clubs and without a doubt Paris Saint Germain has hijacked one of the most exciting young players of the world from the jaws of top European clubs.
Transfer of Kylian Mbappe from Monaco to Paris Saint Germain on the deadline day was heartbreaking for most of the top clubs and everyone since then was asking the same question that what motivates Mbappe to sign for PSG instead of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and other top clubs? The question has been answered from the Golden boy himself in an interview with Telefoot.
Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe Come Together
It has been quite an incredible summer for Paris Saint-Germain as they shocked everyone by signing Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe against all the odds. The teenage French sensation suggesting that the Neymar Jr’s presence was an extra motivation for him to make the move.
After tearing up some history books to get the signature of 222 million euro outlay to secure the signature of Neymar, PSG agreed a one-year loan deal with Monaco for Mbappe, with an obligation to pay an estimated fee of around 180m euros at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
The 18-year-old became the second most expensive footballer in waiting, with that status to be confirmed as soon as his loan deal is made permanent. In an interview with Telefoot the youngster made clear his delight at joining the club he supported as a child.
“Playing with Neymar is something extraordinary and I was immediately interested, so it is true that Neymar signing was an extra boost for me,” he explained.
Ligue 1 has something of a burgeoning reputation in the world, although many jaws dropped by knowing the decision to remain in France when the Real Madrid were so interested in him.
“All the great players have made history in their country, whether that be in the national team or with a club, so I couldn’t leave France after having only played six months at the highest level.”
It is clear that the goal at the Parc des Princes is to win the Champions League and, while there is significant pressure on Unai Emery’s shoulders, Mbappe is keen to leave his mark on the club’s history and in Europe as well.
“What I really want to do is leave my mark on the history of my city. PSG is the only project that allowed me to continue my progression while playing regular football. The Champions League is part of our season and we are going to play to win it. When you come to a club like this, one which has the ambition to be the best in the world, you have to hope to win everything and believe you can do so.”
With Monaco, Mbappe reached the semi-finals of the competition last season and will now hope to go a couple of steps further with his new club PSG.
It’s still hard to digest that his desire to play with Neymar is bigger than playing with legends of the game like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema and many more. Also, no wonder Real Madrid have a better chance of getting into this year’s final of Champions League than PSG.
