The left-arm all-rounder from Gujarat, Axar Patel is going to replace Ravindra Jadeja for the third test against Sri Lanka. The test will start on Saturday, August 12.
The slow left-arm orthodox has already been featured in 30 One-Day Internationals for India. He has been a part of 7 T20 Internationals for India as well. However, he is yet to earn a test cap for his country.
Ravindra Jadeja is facing a one-match ban because of which Axar Patel got an opportunity to join the squad.
Axar Patel earned a call-up for the team because Ravindra Jadeja is facing a one-match suspension. He threw the ball back at the batsman because of which he collected three demerit points. With this, his total demerits points reached six, thus leading to a one-match ban and a 50% match fee.
Ravindra Jadeja threw the ball back at Malinda Pushpakumara while fielding off his bowling. He threw it “in a dangerous manner” as per the statements of Rod Tucker and Bruce Oxenford, the on-field umpires for the second test match. According to the article 2.2.8 :
“Throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match.”
Ravindra Jadeja, who bagged the Man of the Match‘s title in the second test, accepted the punishment and admitted the offense.
