German automaker “Volkswagen” always brings in the excitement for a new launch and this time all the noise around is for the eighth iteration Volkswagen Passat India launch.
Volkswagen Passat has always been the most spectacular vehicle in its segment and even quite famous among the domestic customers. Volkswagen Passat is said to well suit the Indian audience due to the improvisation made with the car. Initially it is set to launch 2.0 L Diesel variant Petrol and Plug-in Hybrid variants are expected to join the lineup later on.

Engine & Transmission
The new 2017 Volkswagen Passat will be launched with a Diesel variant initially. The car will have 2.0 TDI engine generating a peak power of 187 bhp. Car will be available in 190 PS – 400 Nm state of tune. A 6-speed DSG will handle the transmission duties of the car. There is also a new 237 bhp twin turbo diesel engine as well but there are very few chances of it arriving in India as of now. The regular petrol variant will have a 1.8-litre TFSI unit. It has maximum power of 180 BHP and 320 Nm. Engine gives a peak torque output of 250 Nm. Engine will be available in two options of 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox and 6-speed manual variant.
A lot has been upgraded in the new Passat. The look has evolved with time and this time it has got more edgy styling compared to the previous models. The new model is based on the flexible MQB architecture and is almost lighter by around 85 Kgs. It has been equipped with the new four-bar grille, prominent hood, LED headlamps, fog lights and LED taillights.
It will have a new front, a new trucklid and rear bumper. The front bumper has integrated C-shaped LED lights. The flared wheel arches have been fitted towards bigger alloy wheels. The hood flows nicely into a low hung chin making it look even more stylish. It adorns redesigned bumpers, newly designed bonnet and fenders giving it an aggressive look.
The interior of new Volkswagen Passat looks very clean and elegant. Interior has an array of new features like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster; leather wrapped flat bottom steering wheel, a restyled gear knob, a tweaked infotainment system and blue ambient lighting.
The infotainment system uses high responsive capacitive screens, support for Apple Car Play, Android app mirroring and Google Earth. There has been increase made in the luggage area of the car by 26-litres. Safety features include 9 airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System with Electronic BrakeForce Distribution, brake assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor, rear view camera, etc.
The expected efficiency of Volkswagen Passat figures around 16 kmpl on highway and 11 kmpl while driving in city.
One can expect the prices to start around 20 lakh and go up to 25 lakh which is somewhere around the current generation car only. Expect prices to go even higher for the hybrid variants if it arrives in the Indian market.
